VOLUNTEERISM IN ACTION: THE BANTAY BASURA ENFORCERS

They heed the call of Mayor Imelda T. Aguilar to be at the forefront of the anti-littering campaign of Las Pinas. Coming from different barangays, these volunteers are deputized to apprehend those who would be caught throwing garbage in non-designated garbage bins and outside of the specified schedule of garbage collection, which is timed from 3:00AM to 5:00 AM and 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM.

Presently, their area of concentration is at Alabang-Zapote Road wherein they monitor the proper disposal of garbage and enforce the city ordinance against littering. This ordinance prohibits the littering of garbage refuse, waste materials, remnants, human and animal excrement, animal cadavers and the like on the road. Violators of this ordinance would be penalized with a fine of PhP500 (five hundred) pesos and imprisonment of 10 up to 30 days. The Bantay Basura enforcers are our partners to make our streets zero garbage zones.
